Misophonia Unravelled
Feb 11, 2020
Misophonia is a condition in which individuals experience an intolerance to particular sounds. Often it is the sound of chewing or sniffing or similar physiologically produced sounds.
Unlike intolerance to loud sound, which is a natural protective response, misophonia has a strong psychological connection. Inconsistencies are evident, such that they may not mind a child sniffing but react with a feeling of disgust and aversion when heard from an adult.
Specialist Audiologist can work with individuals who have such issues if they are problematic enough in their daily living to require support, counselling and implementation of strategies.
