Speech Discrimination
Speech discrimination is a critical component of your hearing assessment as it tells your audiologist the extent of distortion you are having in the reception of sound, contributing to you overall level of communicative difficulty. This is why screening tests of pure tones do not provide the complete picture.
If you can achieve 80% speech discrimination or above you will do well with hearing aids. Lower levels of speech discrimination require more rehabilitation and consideration of additional features in hearing aids and accessories to optimise your communicative ability.
