Willem Demant is the parent company of Oticon, Bernafon and Sonic. Originally, as
just Oticon, it was a Danish company but acquired the Swiss Bernafon and the American Sonic Innovations
creating a diverse array of technologies. In 2016 Oticon released its Oticon Opn hearing aid platform. It
claimed to be the world’s first internet connected hearing aid. Using an “open sound”

Starkey is a privately owned American company that has been at the forefront of ITC hearing aid technology for many decades but now has advanced into a new exciting era of “healthable” hearing aids such as the Livio AI hearing aid (Artificial Intelligence). The Livio AI hearing aid, via its motion sensors, tracks physical activity and cognitive health via its “Thrive” Smart Phone Application. A Danish company active in health electronics globally. It is well known for pioneering the Bluetooth platform with Apple to enable direct connection to iPhones initially and now progressively with Android platforms, so you can use your hearing aids like wireless headphones. This technology has also be leveraged by Cochlea the Bionic Ear manufacturer. ReSound also develop the isolate technology coating electronics with a thin layer to protect from dust and moisture and thus improving product reliability enormously. Siemens sold its hearing aid division to Sivantos who has now gone on to acquire the Danish Widex Hearing Aid Company making it the third largest hearing aid manufacturer globally. The name “Sivantos” is a blend of “Si” for its Siemens heritage and “Vantos” derived from the English word “vantage” fostering a vision for the future. The parent company is known as Sonova and is primarily a hearing aid and wireless communication devices manufacturer base in Switzerland. In recent years has acquired Advanced Bionics, a Cochlear Implant manufacturer. In 2015 in acquired another hearing aid manufacturer known as Hansaton as well as some dispensing chains in Europe. The company has a long history of well thought out product platforms which continues to this day including their early work in paediatric hearing solutions. Their latest platform is the Marvel which connects via Bluetooth to both Apple and Android smart phones.
